He has shown you, oh man, what is good and what the Lord requires of you: to walk justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8

First Days in Ecuador

Well, I just finished massacring 4 million little ants with Fantastic. I left a tuna can out, went and took pictures of my newly finished house, and when I came back, the counter was under attack by the little critters. Fantastic lived up to its name, and they all froze in their tracks. But enough about ants!

I'm in Guayaquil, Ecuador!

My plane touched ground at 5:00pm Ecuador-time (an hour behind all of you on the East coast) and the passengers erupted in clapping. I love it. I also love the fact that all of these women stood up to get their luggage with perfectly curled hair after a 6 and 1/2 hour flight. When we left JFK, these same women had bright blue curlers stuck to their scalp. Arrival in Guayaquil = beauty queens. Interesting.

So I got here and Nikki picked me up from the airport in her new car! It's a cute 98 Chevy something SUV. It's stick shift, and, thanks to Jonny's car, I am prepared to take over the wheel if there's ever a need! That's right! I can drive stick! I'm very proud. But actually, now that I think about it, there are pretty many hills around Guayaquil, and I'm NOT confident stopping and starting on hills yet. K, so Nikki brought me back to her house and then I got the grand tour of my new place. It was not finished on Tuesday but it was finished today! I'll give you some before/after shots...

Yesterday I picked out the paint and the men painted the entire house today! Pretty impressive! I'm not sure how to upload these pictures correctly and blogger isn't helping me out, so I'm not going to upload any more here. But, let me tell you, my room is PINK and Yadira (my roommate who will come next week)'s room is green. They're both pretty brilliant.

But now, I better get going. I'm going to shower off my grime (it's pretty hot) and head out to a Last Supper dinner at the Block 6 church. I'll take MY new house keys and be on my way :) Thanks for reading! Happy Easter! Jesus died so that you can be forgiven from your sins, and rose again 3 days later! Celebrate!

Just finished reading your email letter and now this. We're in the same time zone. I remember how proud I was when I learned to drive a stick shift; it won't take you long to get the hang of it on the hills. Loved the image of the bright blue curlers. Praying for you. Love, Judi
