The Details

Last night we had a little Bible study/prayer meeting here at the house. Adiran talked about Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego from the book of Daniel in the Bible. I've read and heard this story tons of times, but Adrian brought out a point that I'd never noticed before. For those of you who don't know the story, King Nebuchadnezzar ordered everyone to worship a statue of himself and these 3 guys refused to worship anyone but God. After they refused 3 times, they were thrown into a blazing furnace that was so hot that it killed the guards who threw them in. When the king looked into the fire, he noticed that Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were not dead, but they were walking around in the furnace with someone who looked like "a son of the gods". He told them to come out and they walked out without a single hair smelling of smoke or fire. Great story- you should read it if you haven't! So, anyway, I've always thought of this story to illustrate the amazing faith that these guys had in God or show God's power, but last night I realized how when God does His will for us, He doesn't do a mediocre job; He cares about the details! When the 3 guys came out of the fire, the Bible says, "the fire had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them." Dan 3:27. These details were not necessary; the important thing was that they were alive, right?! Wasn't that miracle enough? It's pretty cool to think that an all-powerful God loves us enough to care about the little details of our lives when we're following His will for us. It's definately an encouragement to me down here in Paraguay, and I'm seeing so many little great little details here that are not necessary but are so appreciated!
