No Snow Days

Did you ever think "oh those poor kids in South America. They don't get snow days." Well think again! We're heading into winter, and rain days make up for snow days. Rain=no school. Kids are programed from birth appartently to think that rain is dangerous. And, well, I guess it can be. I sat next to a 10 year old on the bus yesterday who told me that it was dangerous outside. Thinking we were passing through a rough neighboorhood full of bad guys just waiting to jump on the bus and take all my belongings, I asked, "why?" "The roads are wet," she replied. Ah yes. Hence the empty schools at the hint of rain.

I can't judge too harshly. I didn't go to church this morning. I woke up at 6:59, considered getting into the shower when my feet hit an inch of water on the floor and my newly awakened profile was illuminated by a crack of lightening. The rain continued to pour through the roof and my Paraguayan roommate convinced me to go back to bed.  The peril of flooded streets and swaying electric lines keep sane people indoors. And life is just more complicated (and wet) without a car... Just 2 minutes ago I was comforted by her text message that reported 7 people in the church this morning. My piano playing wasn't missed by many!
