Meat

If I haven´t already told you, Paraguay is the land of meat. Meat meat meat. Corn and variations on cornbread are popular too, but save room for the meat! I´ll especially order a hamburger with lettuce and tomato to get my veggies for the day or Mariana kindly offers me a salad of lettuce and tomato.

What an exciting moment when I walked into the Panaderia (bread store) today! There, behind the counter, sat a tray of rice and chicken and PEAS! cooked peas! I couldn´t believe my eyes. Without glancing at the other options, I ordered a salad and a huge serving of rice and chicken and peas.

I returned to IdiPar (my language school) and ate my salad while conversing with the other students. Then, excitedly, I opened my main course. But wait. Why does this chicken look like octopus?
Profesora... ¿qué compré? What did I buy? ¿No es pollo? It´s not chicken? Es el intestino grande del vaca. ¡Es muy rico! It´s the cow´s large intestine and it´s deliscious!

So I tried it. Really, I did. And let´s just say, I won´t be ordering it next week, even if it does have peas.

Eww! At least you were brave enough to try it. I think I would have passed on it. But, ahh...the joys of living abroad. ;)
