He has shown you, oh man, what is good and what the Lord requires of you: to walk justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8

A Normal Day

As I was getting ready to go to bed, I started thinking about what a normal day today was. Then I thought that my friends and family might have no idea what a normal day for a missionary looks like- or may have a totally different idea of what a normal day looks like. Normal is just that: normal.

Want to read about it? It might be boring.

I woke up. Ate some cereal that my mom left me on her recent visit. Cleaned the kitchen and went to school. There, I taught a 4th grade English class (gave a test!) and then trumpet and clarinet lessons during the kids' recess. They can now play Jingle Bells! (See? So normal). Then I graded papers, talked to teachers and planned after-school English club.
(this is a picture of a 1st grade class)

I ran out to get my car looked at before English Club. My mechanic shop is right next to the housing development that I live in and I really trust the guys. I had been hearing some squealing and thought it might be my "bandas" (belts) that I haven't changed. He opened it up, told me they looked good, and I was on my way after a smile and "gracias!" Free consultation!

I went back to school where we learned about birthdays and months of the year in English and played memory.

Then I came home and watched some TV while I made myself a late lunch. We're using a friend's Netflix account. It's great!

Then my friend Kenia and I went over to the church to teach violin and piano lessons. The girls really improved today! After lessons, Kenia and I ran out to buy some fabric at a close-by strip mall. I'm having a dress made from some fabric I got from Africa.

After that, back home to find Becky making creative and delicious food with garlic, onion, ginger and chick peas. Kenia and I contributed to the meal with tzatziki sauce and fresh squeezed orange juice we got from Kenia's family farm last weekend. While the day was normal, I understand that this dinner was definitely not. But it was tasty!!

So after that meal of basically GARLIC, we guzzled mouth wash and walked across the street to church: Bible Study. I was so impressed by the amount of youth out tonight! It was a great night. It ended around 9 and we all hung out talking on the street til about 10.

Even though it was 10:00 at night, we still had to wait a while to cross the highway to get back home. And that's a day in the life! Oh yeah-- It does end with a cold shower to wash off the day, but its still pretty warm out and was nice and refreshing. (Every other night this week has been in the low 70's/high 60's --so nice!!--but definitely requires a hot bucket shower- boiling water on the stove.)

And then I usually stay up way too late and find a way to blame it on my night-owl roommate but I know she has nothing to do with me writing this blog.... Goodnight!
